The Navarrese Jesús María Oyarbide (1930-2010) opened Zalacaín in 1973, after several years of success in Madrid with Príncipe de Viana, one of the most important gastronomic references of traditional cuisine in Spain. With a great team in the kitchen and in the lounge, Zalacaín was awarded its first Michelin Star two years after its inauguration. Six years later, in 1981, it obtained its second star, and in 1987 the third one, becoming the first Spanish restaurant to achieve this top recognition. Later, Arzak achieved them in 1989, El Racó de Can Fabes in 1994 and the El Bulli in 1997.

Since then, and as a natural evolution, several professionals following or leading other successful projects in Madrid have been through Zalacaín. All have added value to a philosophy of quality and discretion. And all remember Zalacaín as the cradle of good cuisine and the meeting place where it was created.

Today Zalacaín is one of the affiliates of the LaFinca business group, chaired by Susana García Cereceda, who has focused her teams in reaching the historic levels of client satisfaction that led Zalacaín to being the gastronomic and social reference in Madrid. Currently, in addition to the restaurant, we have a venue for large celebrations, Zalacaín LaFinca; also, the Zalacaín Catering service is available for large celebrations and also for small private events in your home; as well as the Somosaguas Golf Club. In addition, La Finca Real Estate continues pursuing the development of exclusive real estate projects in Madrid.
